Who Do You See Yourself As?

Which character do you most resemble in character, personality, and values?

I can see myself resembling Larry becuase he is after enlightenment and answers. I think most people are prone to seek answers, but most probably won't try as hard as Larry. I don't think I will try as hard as he is, becuase I believe that answers come through life experiences.

This makes me a little more like Isabel, because like her, I am practical and want to lead a somewhat "normal" life. Though I'm not sure I want to follow the cut and dry path that is so "American," I definitely see myself wanting to be financially secure in life.

I am very unlike Elliott, because for one thing, he has some money in the bank. Also, he tends to care about what society thinks of him, and is constantly trying to build his reputation as a high class man. I personally do not care how society views me, and I don't believe doing so leads to happiness in life.

The character I feel most drawn to would have to be Larry, simply because he does not feel he needs money or success in order to be happy. Unlike Elliott, Larry does not worry about his financial or social status, he just wants to be himself. The idea of going to another country to discover ones self is something I find to be extremely interesting. I mean honestly, how much can you really know about yourself if you've never experienced anything?

Its more of a combination of characters for me. I see myself sometimes alot like Larry in wanting to just do what feels right and live life in the fast lane... yet more often than not I end up doing just the opposite and seeming more like Isabel's personality, in wanting to just float along and be normal. But the balance between the two personalities... i think.... is what will really work for me.

I am most drawn to Larry, because in a lot of ways he is free spirited like I am. Larry isn't consumed with what society upholds him to, he does what he wants, what he feels, and thinks is right- even if it means leaving a gold digging woman like Isabel.
I am most unlike Isabel because money is never a reason for me to do things. Isabel left Larry because he wasn't going to do what society expected him to do, he wasn't just goign to accept a set life, with a set income, just to uphold society's expectations. I'm not a gold digger...

I feel drawn to the character of Larry. He's traveled all over the world, seeing and learning life. His desires to better himself are similar to mine and, although I haven't done or seen as much as him, I feel like we are very much the same.
As for which character I rather dislike, I would say it is Elliot. Elliot is prodominately a social climber. He desires nothing more than becoming noble like many he surrounds himself with. Although my generosity would certainely match his if I had his wealth, his motives are not my own.

I feel like I have a little bit of each character in me. Each character is just doing what they want to do. I am more like Isabel in the sense that when I am young I just want to have a good time and take advantage of that little time I have. Although, I am like Larry because I too wish to take time out of my life to travel and learn. I admit to having a little bit of Elliot in me because I do social climb to some extent, but if I was to chose a character I am most unlike, it would be him. I do not feel like I am as superficial as Elliot.

I see myself as blends of each character. It's hard to just pick one and say that I am like or unlike them .
In Elliot I see and can relate to his sense of business or "serviableness" and his disire to fit into other cutlures but I hope that i do not rub of as a pretenious "playa". I enjoy Isabel's particality and try do as she does but i again i dont like her snopishness. I guess i like larry the best because his free spirtness is what i want to be like the most. To be able to let go of everything and follow your hart is what i want to be more like. ( really poorly written becuase im trying to get to class)

Well, I am definitely drawn to the life of Larry. One of the reasons I teach, I'm sure, is that I can take the time to "seek knowledge" through my reading (and re-reading) of books, stories, poems, and plays--and from listening to my students--who ALWAYS teach me something. Another nicety of teaching is that your summers off allow you to travel--and seek--and I've been lucky enough to have done that. I do, of course, agree with Isabel's sense of practicality--i.e., one has to work and gain an income in order to live..but Larry's idea of "following your gut" might be the ultimate answer in life. But it is also interesting how often people seem NOT to do that...because of whatever reason or reasons...

I am definately drawn to Larry's views and life style, yet I can't say I am like him. I do think the fact taht I admire Larry does say draw some connection between Larry and myself. I wish to be someone who can devout my life to learning and being enlightened. Someone who is above the society's black and white standards. Who can live and thrive on passion.

However, it is so hard to accomplish such attitude toward the world that is constantly trying to draw you in. So, I can see the Elliott or the Isabel in me as well. The person who wants to be aknowledged by the society through a standard "success" (wealth, reputation, name, etc)

the characters in the book razor's edge are placed in such extremes of both characteristics, it is hard to classify myself to one character. I do respect all way of life, or values, but I believe I am a teenager struggling to create a balnace between the two extremems.

I can say the most interesting character I have seen is the Irish pilot Patsy, who was not given enough time or lines in the book. I wish this character was given some more development, if would be welcomed change from the usual the "hard and interesting" lives of some rich people and Larry who chooses to loaf even after someone died saving him, it would seem he is set on loafing away his life, instead of ever thinking how is actions affect his loved ones, especially Isabel.

I see myself as a mix of characters. I do admire Elliott for his ability to climb the social ladder. No one, I think, can honestly say that they do not want the lavish things in life that Elliott possesses. Also, it takes a strong person to start out with nothing and end up with great success. So, I am drawn to Elliott because I admire him. I also enjoy Isabel, because she is upfront and honest. She isn't afraid to speak her mind and say how she feels, even if at that time, a woman having an outspoken opinion was looked down upon. In the same ways that I am drawn to Elliott, I find myself most unlike him in some ways. Elliott does not seem happy despite everything he has, which leads to a sad existence. That in no way is like me.

I don't see myself as most resembling just one character, though if I had to pick, it would probably be some sort of whacked up mixture of Elliot and Larry.

I highly view how I am seen in society, though I don't have quite the amount of success or wealth that Elliot has amassed, and I am more prone to thinking how everyone would respond to something, and thus acting accordingly, as opposed to saying "She won't know of it, she wouldn't understand." I am more "human," I guess, then Elliot, in that I will go by the others' feelings instead of stepping on them to get to places.

I am similar to larry in that I like to relax, that I want to do things just for the sake of it, and that if I do work, I want it to be something that I can enjoy to the fullest. I'll often just sit and think, staring off into space. I differ from him, though, in that I plan on going somewhere in life, taking the first step myself instead of waiting for it to come to me.

The character I am most unlike, though? I'd have to say Gray Maturin, simply because I am not so nearly successful or work orientated as him, and I could care less about stocks. Don't really have much of an explanation beyond that, sadly enough.

I would say that I am least like Larry. Never would I find happiness in searching for enlightenment or the answers to all of the questions. I am a realist; a person who thrives on having a job and is climbing the ladder. Though, do not mistake me for Elliott Templeton. (I can be snobby, but not that snobby!)

Therefore, I can see myself resembling the narrator because of my realistic observations. I do not see people only for their materialistic value as Elliott does; rather, I receive the opportunity to see a person for who they truly are. Moreover, I am always thrown into situations where I am the outsider, one who gives unbiased advice.

I see myself more like larry for sentimental reasons. His father is from Baltimore, and his mother is Quaker. I am from baltimore, yet i am definantly NOT Quaker- i went to a Quaker.

I also must admit i am like Larry because of my awareness in life. In chapter seven Maugham finds him in the library at the club. After conversing for a while Maugham asks why he is reading phsycology, and Larry states "I'm very ignorant". Here i can see that we are both trying to sharpen our instruments, it may be cliche- but its true.

I believe I am a lot of the characters combined. I am a little bit of the narrator, I prefer to observe things and then make comments to myself about them and figure out why and how people turn out to be who they are. I am also very much like Isabelle in the way she gets attached to things. Isabelle decided who she wanted to be with and she poured her heart into making her dream come true. I am also a little bit of Elliot, I love to try new things and travel to new places and I love to help out and try to make a difference. Elliot, I think, probably enjoys more knowing he has made a difference than actually making the difference, but none the less he is always trying to improve things.

I feel I am most drawn to Elliott. But not because he is pretentious and likes to brown nose, but because he likes to be the center of attention, to be socially acceptable, and the life of the party. I would love to live in a large house in Paris, and subsequently, like Elliott, I sometimes make comments or generalizations about topics I know nothing about. However, I feel a sense of liveliness and enjoyment radiating from this character which makes me feel drawn to him.
I feel I am most unlike Sophie, I am not the least bit shy or reserved, and there is no mystery about who I am or what I am thinking. Trust me, after you have a conversation with me, I will make sure you know what I am thinking. On the contrary, unlike Elliott, Sophie seems to not speak her mind and is a lot more of an introvert. I, am an extrovert.

Me, being the horrible but determinded none-the-less writer that I am, am going to have to say that, out of all the characters in this book so far, I identify with the author the most.

Simply because its one writer to another.

I can see myself resembling Elliott because he take actions to get what he want. Unlike Larry, he is one of the character who doesn't even know what the goal is. Elliott knows what he wants clearly. Moreover, he is smart and charming. These factors determine his success in the future.
